The Cocoa Works, York
York Cocoa Works is a dedicated chocolate production facility based in the heart of York; it has brought chocolate manufacturing back into York for the first time since the closure of the Nestle/Rowntree factory in 2005.
The modern open plan, ground floor, former Job Centre Plus offices were redesigned and fully fitted out to create a chocolate factory with glazed windows to allow visitors to engage with the production activity.
An academy teaching space was created for group visits to learn about the origins and create their own chocolate.
A high-quality café facility and retail shop plus toilets were also created to produce revenue and add additional facilities for visitors.
The works included all trades along with full mechanical and electrical installations to create the space.
Access for deliveries was extremely tight being on a busy narrow one-way street with no parking.
